2019
Young Jewel is an award-recognised dual occupancy in Sylvania, celebrated for its thoughtful integration of contemporary design, contextual response, and liveability.
Summary
Finalist in the prestigious BDA Australia Awards’ Dual Occupancy category, the project demonstrates innovative spatial planning, refined materiality, and exceptional attention to detail that enhances both functionality and aesthetic presence in a residential setting.
Challenge
The project required a sensitive response to surrounding low-density housing while achieving a contemporary architectural expression. Managing overlooking, solar access, and setbacks within strict planning controls demanded a highly considered approach to massing, orientation, and internal planning.
Solutions
The design resolves these constraints through a sculpted form that breaks down scale, strategic window placement, and carefully zoned interiors. Living spaces are oriented to optimise daylight and outlook, while private areas are buffered to ensure acoustic and visual privacy for both dwellings.
